The five-year-old chef

One of my most enjoyable maternal duties right now is to act as scribe, assistant and general dogsbody when JJ decides to play chef and invent new dishes. Friday's special was "Carrot and Tomato (with a little bit of apple) Fish":



I love the off-centredness of this, and the scales which have been carefully scored into the apple slices with her fingernail. The tomatoes are officially fins.

The other cool thing about when she cooks is that she likes to play with raw fruit and veg as primary ingredients -- and then reliably eats the lot.
